CPC Challenge One

This is my first entry for the Cameras and Pens Challenge hosted by Carol.

I used one prompt out of three and am entering only one piece of art, so I hope I’ll have more inspiration next time. Really busy with… things, you know?

Wanderlust

I grew up in the city
Orderly buildings in perfect rows
Cars on tar covered streets
Where only what’s planted ever grows.

I wished myself a world
Each time I looked at the streets
Where paths run over valleys like rivers
And smile when the sun and horizon meet.

I wished myself a world
Each time I looked up high
I wished, instead of skyscrapers,
For stars to stud the sky.

I wished myself a world
As I looked out our car’s glass pane
Where I could cycle by the rivers
Through sun and wind and rain.

And at night, when the colours
Begin to drain out of the sky,
I can sprawl across the grass
And let the wind sing a lullaby.

Oh, the city is so wonderful-
That is what I’m taught.
The city seems so perfect
But apparently, I am not.
